A FUEL saving of 5.5 per cent has been achieved by the 57vehicle fleet operated by Perkins Engines Ltd. It followed a major initiative by the company to save on its energy bill. Drivers were advised on correct driving techniques and efforts were made to reduce -empty or part-load running by better planning. The saving amounted to 20,000gal of fuel, worth £8,000.
Now the company has published a free book on how better mileage figures can be obtained from diesel-engined vehicles. Available from the publicity manager at Perkins Engines, Peterborough, the booklet points out that savings can be made by improving vehicle utilisation, driving techniques and vehicle care and maintenance. Another publication gives detailed advice about how to reduce diesel engine smoke.
