Our supporters will read the judges' recommendations with no small degtae of interest and, as these have been agreed unanimously, it goes without saying that the Committee of the Royal Automobile Club has duly confirmed Mr. J. Stewart Mallam, F.C.A.

Mr. Mallana, who is responsible for ths. records of the Trials, is senior partner in the firm of Messrs. Andrew W, Barr and Co., Chartered Accountants, of 1, Queen Victoria Street, EX., who are the R.A.C. Auditors,

them. We would direct special attention to the fact that steam-propelled machines have secured the whole of the prizes for loads greater than three tons.

CLASS A.

GOLD MEDAL—To Mann and Over ton's, Ltd., of 7A, Lower Belgrave Street. (T.A., " Soupape ";

633 Westminster), for its to-1211.p., " Unic " van (No. A6), carrying to cwt., and sold at .315.

This vehicle lost only 78 marks, of which 40 were in respect of tires, during the whole of the road tests.

SILVER MEDAL—To De Dion-Bouton (1907), Ltd., of to, Great Marlborough Street, W. (T.A., " Andesite "; T., 8160 Central), for its 9h.p. De DionBouton van (No. A2), carrying to cwt., and sold at £325.

This vehicle, during the road tests, lost 230 marks in depot, and 48 on the road.

CLASS B.

GOLD MEDAL (only award).—To the Lacre Motor Car Co., Ltd., of i to s. Poland Street, W. (T.A., "Unbaffled"; T., 2308 Gerrard), for the two, 16h.p.. ',acre van, No. Br, and 1312), each carrying 20 cwt., and sold, respectively, at .4;448 and £475 The former of these vans lost 89 minutes in depot, and 116 minutes on the road, during the whole of the road tests, but the latter was non-stop throughout and lost no time whatsoever,

Theo particular vans are built, to the requirements of the Lacre Company, at the Albion Works, Scotstoun, Glasgow.

CLASS C.

GOLD MEDAL.—To John I. Thornycroft and Co., Ltd., of Basingstoke, Chiswick, Southampton, and London (Sales Department, 2, Albemarle

Street, "Tbawnikar"; T., 8874 Gerrard), for its 24h.p. (paraffin engine), Thornycreft lorry (No. C19), with riot sides, carrying 30 cwt., and sold at L,59s.

This vehicle did not suffer the loss of a single mark during the road tests, and it obtains one of the two diplomas given by the War Office (vide infra). SILVER MEDAL.—To Halley's Industrial Motors, Ltd., of Yoker, Glasgow Horseless," Glasgow; T., 88 Clydebartk), for its 2oh.p., Halley van

(No. C13), carrying 30 cwt., and sold

at £490.

This vehicle did not lose a single mark during the road tests, Its maker also receives the special prize (a large salver in silver), given by Mr. Worby Beaumont, for simplicity and freedom from liability to disarrangement, etc.

CLASS D.

GOLD MEDAL—To Halley's Industrial Motors, Ltd., as above, for its

20h.p., Halley lorry (No. D2o), carrying 40 cwt., and sold at .4-510.

This vehicle lost 75 marks during the road tests.

GOLD MEDAL—TO Milnes-Daimier, Ltd., of 221, Tottenham Court Road, W. " Milnesie "; T., 2268 Gerrard), for its 22h.p., Milnes-Daimler lorry (No. 1)24), carrying 40 cwt., and sold at This vehicle lost 20 marks in depat,

and 178 on the road, no less than 128 of the latter being due to tires.

SILVER MEDAL.—To Dennis Brothers, Ltd., of Guildford, Surrey (T.A., Dennis, Guildford; T., 129 Guildford), for its 24h.p., van (No. D26), carrying 40 cwt., and sold at 4'700.

This vehicle lost 8 minutes in depot, and 66 minutes on the road, during the road tests.

CLASS E.

GOLD MEDAL (and Diploma).—To J. and E. Hall, Ltd., of Dartford, Kent " Hallford," Dartford; T., 7 Dartford), for its 3o-3811.p., " Hall

ford " lorry (No. F.3o), carrying 6o cwt., and sold at L75o.* This vehicle suffered no depot or mechanical losses, but 224 minutes were debited against it for tire troubles.

GOLD MEDAL :—TO the Maudslay Motor Co. (1907), Ltd., of Parkside, Coventry (T.A., " Maudslay "; T., , in)), for its 3o-4oh.p., Maudslay,

millers, dray (No. E4o), carrying 6o cwt., and sold at .4.86o.

This vehicle lost a total of only 32 minutes during the road tests, and it obtains one of the two diplomas given by the War Office (vide infra).

SILVER MEDAL.--To Commercial Cars, Ltd., of Luton, Beds., and Craven House, Kingsway, W.C. (T.A., " Komerkars," London; T., 14240 Central), for its 33h.p., " Corner Car ' lorry (No. E43), carrying 6o cwt., and sold at ;6750.

This vehicle had neither depot nor road losses, other than 47 minutes in respect of tires.

SILVER MEDAL.—T0 John 1. Thornycroft and Co., Ltd., as above, for its 3oh.p., Thornycroft lorry (No. E45), with rim sides, carrying 6o cwt., and sold at £760. This vehicle suffered no deductions of any kind during the road tests.

SPECIAL AWARD.—To De Dion-Bouton (1907), Ltd., as above, the prize (a silver cup value 5 gns.), offered by the Commercial Motor Users' Assoziation, for cleanliness in connection with the dropping of oil.

CLASS F.

GOLD MEDAL.--TO Savage Brothers, Ltd., of St. Nicholas Ironworks, King's Lynn (T.A., "Savage," Lynn; T., 9 King's Lynn), for its steam wagon (No. F5o), designed for a 6-ton load and transferred from the original class G, the horizontal-compound engine with cylinders of ..C„. and 7 inches in din meter, and with a piston-stroke of 6 inches, carrying a load of 100 cwt., and sold at Z's5o.

This vehicle had no depOt trouble, lost only 4 minutes on the road from mechanical trouble, and occupied a total of 343 minutes in watering, etc., between the depOts.

GOLD MEDAL.—To the Yorkshire Patent Steam Wagon Company (a branch of Deig-hton's Patent Flue and Tube Co., Ltd.), of Vulcan Works, Hunslet, Leeds (T.A., " Motor," Leeds ; T., 1674 National). for its sten in wagon (No. F53), the vertical-compound engine with cylinders of 41 and 71 inches in diameter, and with a piston-stroke of 71 inches, carrying mo cwt., and sold at .47475.

This vehicle had neither depot nor road troubles, and occupied a total of 564 minutes in watering, etc., between the depots.

CLASS H (Tractors).

GOLD MEDAL.—To Charles Burrell and Sons, Ltd., of St. Nicholas Works, Thetford, Norfolk (T.A., " Burrell "; T., 6), for its compound, three-speed tractor (No. H58), with wooden treads upon the driving wheels, the engine having cylinders of 41 and 71 inches in diameter, and a piston-stroke of St inches, hauling a total weight of 6 tons behind the drawbar, and sold at £6 (eNclucive of the trailer).

This tractor lost a total of 28 minutes on the road and in depOt, and occupied a total of 206 minutes in watering, etc., between the depots.

SILVER MEDAL.—TO William Foster and Co,, Ltd., of Wellington Foundry,

Lincoln (T.A., Foster "; T., 18), for its compound, two-speed tractor (No. H59), the engine having cylinders of 41 and 61 inches in diameter, and a piston_ stroke of 9 inches, hauling a total weight of 6 tons behind the drawbar, and sold at 4460 (exclusive of the trailer).

This tractor lost a total of 348 minutes on the road and in depot, and occupied a total of 115 minutes in watering, etc., between the depOts. For Special Adroitness.

The judges further recommend : that a Silver Medal be awarded to F. Mills, the driver of E3s, for resourcefulness in bringing his vehicle into Leeds under difficult circumstances; and that a Silver Medal be awarded to Charles Downs, the driver of Hho, for bringing his tractor into Bristol after a serious aciiident.

Army Council Diplomas.

The Army Council has decided to grant two diplomas as follows :Class C, No. pg.—A lorry built by J. I. Thornycroft and Co., Ltd., cap able of carrying 30 cwt., on account of the successful use of petroleum fuel in a four-cylinder, inthrnal--combustion engine, as it is considered that an engine of this description is most suitable for Army use.

Class E, No. 4o.--A lorry built by the Maudslay Motor Co,, Ltd., capable of carrying 3 tons, on account of the accessibility of the working parts of the engine—a very valuable feature from a military point of view.

Punctuality oi Drivers.

The judges further recommend the award of L5 and a silver medal to each

of the following drivers : F. Shaw (C4); M. L. Livings (CF5); E. D. Alexander (Ct8); B. Turner (E4o); H. Waud (Fs2); J. Kay (F53); H. Clarke and H. Parlett (H58); Charles Smith (H59); and Charles Downs (H6o).
