Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Jim McCau lie, who represents Scottish haulers for the group, is dismissive: "There is no question of any demonstrations. It is a total waste of time."

He says he is looking to survive by adding fuel surcharges to his prices, and he depends on customer loyalty to accept the fuel price fluctuations.

Similarly, Derek Linch, of general haulage firm Derek Linch Haulage, says: "TransAction will not take any action because of a lack of support. The industry will not get off their backsides and do anything. When we formed TransAction in 1999, we got the country behind us, and in 2000 it worked. But several hauliers have packed up and the government still does not listen." (TransAction co-founder Peter Knight, of Les Knight Transport, sold the company to Dodds Group in October 2008.) Kent-based Derek Linch Haulage has scaled down to business to survive against spiralling costs.

Previously running a fleet of 30 vehicles, the firm is now down to 21 vehicles and 19 drivers. It too has gone down the fuel surcharge route to survive.
