Ruth Cairnie initially joined Shell as a scientist, where she worked in its research laboratories in Chester. She was involved in the development of new fuels, as well as looking at how different fuels and lubricants interact with the engine.
She has been with the company for more than 30 years. moving up the corporate ladder in a number of different sales and marketing roles, and while she has mostly been based in the UK, like most Shell employees, she has also been through her share of foreign postings, Including Sydney, Germany and Singapore.
