TYPICAL of the trailer equipment manufactured by R. A. Dyson and o.Ltd. for export mainly to the oilfields 3f the world, this 35-ton-capacity trailer or the Middle East (below) is part of an nterchangeable set of units which, by the Ise oi converter dollies, can form either ;emi-trailers or drawbar trailers. It is ntencicd that the first of a tram formed )3f these units should be superimposed into the tractive unit, and that a further me or two trailers operating as drawbar inits should be towed behind.
When used with the tandem-axle confuter dolly the unit is equipped with tight-wheel brakes; a six-wheeled tracive unit and one semi-trailer with two frawbar units would therefore have 26 'raked wheels, 20 of these being braked sy 161 in. by 81 in. S-cam units operated )y two-line air pressure.
Suspension is by an unsprung walking'earn arrangement, the walking beams reing attached to the axles through ubber blocks. This allows for maximum Toss-articulation of the bogie. On the :onverter dollies the rearmost axle is ixed, with the leading axle pivoted cenrally on a beam giving a wide degree of ransverse articulation. The dolly fifthvheel is also mounted to allow for trans:erse oscillation, so providing for all the
wheels to earn their full share of the imposed load at all times.
• On all units Goodyear nylon lowprofile sand tyres are fitted.
One end of he trailer platform can be winch-lowered to permit plant to be loaded.
