from i Ton to 5 Tons Modern Appearance and Sturdy Construction Characterize the Latest Oldsmobiles THE latest Oldsmobile range which is now being marketed in this country comprises five models, with payload ratings of 1 ton, 2i-3 tons, 3-31tons, 4 tons and 5-6 tons respectively. An accompanying illustration of the 4-ton forward-control model shows that the appearance is distinc• tive and the cab harmonizes well with the neat bonnet and radiator.
Each model is powered by a sixcylindered engine rated at 28.3 h.p., and developing a maximum of 78 b.h.p. at 3200, r.p.m.; the maximum torque is 164 lb.-ft. at 1,200 r.p.m. The bore and stroke are 87 mm, and 105 mm, respectively.
Hydraulically operated brakes are a feature of all models, and, in the case of the largest machine—the 5-6tonner—a vacuum servo is incorporated to increase the braking effort, The hand brake, in each case, oper ates the same shoes in the rear wheels.
The chassis are of straightforward design and every effort has been made to reduce maintenance operations to the minimum. They are sturdily built throughout and, with the exception of the 5-6-tonner, each model is available in two lengths of wheelbase.
Another noteworthy feature of Oldsmobile chassis is their light Weight and the largest model, with a wheelbase of 12 ft. 11+ ins., scales 35i cwt,; with body and cab the total unladen weight is well under 2i tons. Incidentally, the 5-6-tonner is equipped with a twospeed axle, The concessionnaire, Oldsmobile Distributors, Ltd., 5, Lower Marsh, London, S.E.1, wishes to obtain dealers in all parts of the country to handle the new range of models, which are, of course, a product of the General Motors organization.
The prices of the chassis are as follow: — 1-tormer, short-wheelbase £220, long-wheelbase £230; 21-3tanner, short-wheelbase £300, longwheelbase £310; 3-3i-tonner, shortwheelbase 2.315, long-wheelbase £325; 4 tanner, forward control, shortwheelbase £385, long-wheelbase £395; 5-8-tonner, forward-control £525.
