DRIVERS of goods vehicles arc at a disadvantage compared with bus crews and factory hands because they have to work without the incentive of possible promotion to a higher grade. This was pointed out last week by Mr. J. T; Morris, chairman of the Institute of Traffic Administration when he spoke at the annual dinner of the Institute's
Birmingham centre. •
He also. stated that about a third. of the country's labour force was engaged in transport and communications, so greater efforts should be made to discover the basic principles of transport operation. More could be done to encourage the student of transport.
Mr. W. P. James, West Midland Licensing Authority, said lorry drivers and bus crews were motivated by a spirit of • individualism which they were keen to preserve in every aspect of their work.
