TW0 new marshalling yards, costing a total of Mtn., are to be built by the London Midland Region of British Railways. Mr. David Blee, the region's general manager, said on Monday that they were part of a plan to speed rail freight services in the country. One yard would be at Carlisle, and the other at Swanbourne, Bucks, incorporating a flyover junction at Bletchley.
Ten new maintenance and repair depots were also to be constructed, he said. Freight trains in future would not have to be pushed aside to make way for passenger services, and customers would find more express freight services available.
