total of £14m. in the development of roads and road transport, as well as £6m. for the improvement and extension of the railway system. Investment in road transport has mainly been aimed at standardizing on certain makes of vehicle and replacing petrol by oil engines.
A total of 650 new oil-engined buses was imported from France and Britain at a cost of £4.4m., whilst £5.9m. was spent on goods vehicles mainly purchased from Germany and America.
Work is almost complete on the final 93-mile southern stretch of asphaltsurfaced road from •Eilat to Beersheba.
