Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Drivers who park in coach bays will have their trucKs clamped, even if

the designated La/ parking area is full. Roanna Avison reports.

MOT() INSISTS IT will no longer tolerate LGVs parking in coach bays at Lymm Services, next to Junction 20 on the M6. The company is responding to complaints from drivers whose trucks were clamped in coach hays.

Shona Clark, transport manager at Prestwick Airport-based Home and Away Express, says one of her drivers pulled into the service area at 8.16pm on Wednesday 30 May and parked in a coach bay because the truck park was full.

"He went to the toilet and when he returned five minutes later the truck was being clamped," she reports. "Because the driver did not have the cash to pay the £330 fine. I had to go into the office to fax payment details across to get the clamp removed.

"Drivers need to be able to park somewhere to use the facilities Or if they need their break and the truck park is full, they have no alternative but to find somewhere else to park."

Chris Holden. owner of Wolverhampton-based Princefiekl Haulage, also had a vehicle clamped for parking in a coach bay at Lymm on 30 May.

"While I accept that my driver was wrong to park in a coach bay, we had difficulty paying the fine to get the vehicle released," he says. "My driver was told to pay himself or call the helpline number. As he had no means of paying tried to pay by credit card over the phone, but was told I'd have to fax the details over. As it was 6.30prn I had to go back to work to do this."

Holden believes it should be easier to pay parking fines, including the use of credit cards over the phone.

However. Moto says cash, or credit or debit cards are accepted as payment for fines on site — and it insists that credit and debit cards can also be used over the phone.

The MSA operator adds that the coach bays are clearly marked with signs warning that any vehicles parking illegally will be clamped.

Lymm Services has 350 LGV parking spaces and 16 coach bays.
