Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

covered by the Employment Relations Act 1999, but the law does not apply to firms with fewer than 20 employees.

After recognition, the union has the right to seek financial information from the company. Information on this is available in an ACAS code of practice (CP02) (see www.acas.org-uk) or in a CAC leaflet (see www.cac.gov-uk).

At this point negotiations should take place. The prescribed method of doing this is laid down in statutory Instrument 2000 no 1300, available from The Stationery Office. Contact customerservices@tso.co.uk If negotiations break down ACAS can become involved. Advice for employees on how ACAS can help is available at www.direct.gov.uk/en/employment/employees/ resolvingworkplacedisputesidg_10028132 whiie their employers can refer to www.businesslink.gov.uk For all this to function properly, employees should have time off for union duties. This is outlined in another ACAS code of conduct (CP03)see www-acas-org.uk, ring the ACAS helpline on 08457 474747 or download a leaflet on this subject from law firm Thompsons: www.thompsons.law.co.uk/Itextftime-off-work-for-tradeunion-activities.htm
