Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Two drivers employed by Norbert Dentressangle UK at its Aylesbury depot have been fined for taking insufficient daily and weekly rest (CM15-21 March).

Milton Keynes magistrates adjourned similar cases involving another 11 ND drivers, and a case against the company for permitting the drivers' offences.

Harry Wallace, who pleaded guilty to two offences of taking insufficient daily rest and one of taking insufficient weekly rest, was fined £250 with £170 costs. Peter Ford pleaded guilty to one daily rest offence and was fined £100 with £180 costs. Both men said that they had received no instructions from the company about the drivers' hours rules.

The other 11 drivers are charged with a total of 15 offences committed in the UK.

The company and its drivers are due to appear before Eastern Traffic Commissioner Geoffrey Simms. He will consider taking action against the company's Eastern Area 0licence, and the HGV driving licences of the drivers for offences committed in the UK and another 37 offences which were allegedly committed on the Continent.
