MOST BUS services run in Leicestershire by Midt,and Red were extensively revised by the Company on May 31 as a result of the County Council's decision to reduce the relative level of support it is able to give unremunerative bus routes as part of its overall strategy for public transport in the county.
A ten per cent reduction in services was necessary because of the reduced revenue support from the County Council.
In meeting this' target, Midl,and Red says it has endeavoured to cover as many of its existing routes as possible by merging old services or reducing the frequency oi otherrs.
In some areas the company has been forced by economic circumstances to withdraw completely.
A spokesman for the com. pany said "As well as cutting underused social bus services, which could otherwise not run at all without the County's cash we are also having to achievE staff economies.
Staff reductions in thE scheme include not only the las of Midl,and Red's conductors but also a number of drivers anc office staff.
