Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A new 50cwt truck, called the L508D, is just announced by Mercedes-Benz AG. It is to be manufactured at the Dusseldorf plant of Daimler Benz AG, and the manufacturing programme contains a complete range of platform and box body versions.

The OM 314 direct-injection fourcylinder diesel engine producing 80 bhp net, which has been well tried in the LP608 and LP808 trucks, powers the new vehicle and drives through the same clutch and synchromesh five-speed gearbox also used in the previous models.

Recirculating ball stearing gear adopted from the Mercedes-Benz medium-duty truck range is used and the vehicle will be equipped with a newly designed front axle assembly incorporating changes in the suspension and shock absorber characteristics. The manufacturer claims that because of the directinjection fuel system, consumption by the more powerful unit stays at about the same level as that of the earlier 60 bhp L406D.
