Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE Mithpax Meat Haulage case, after intermittent hearings at Leeds throughout winter and spring, before Mr. J. H. E. Randolph, Yorkshire deputy Licensing Authority, collapsed in its present form on May 30.

The whole case is to be re-listed and an amended application to include bacon as well as meat, and to define more clearly the areas required by this operator, will be made to the licensing authority.

The initial application was for the transfer of 21 vehicles from C licence to A licence and the addition of four vehicles to the fleet. Behind this application were what were described as chaotic arrangements for transport of a large meat group in Yorkshire. Until recently this group was one of the largest Army and service meat contractors in Britain, but at the last hearing it was revealed that one or two contracts had been lost.

The Whatmuff Group, of which Mithpax is the transport concern, wanted the switch to A licence so that it could carry return traffic for other concerns outside the meat organization. Mr. S. Hyde, Mithpax managing director, has admitted that the company was going out for this return traffic and would charge the usual rates.

It was no use the application being 1322 for B licence, as this would not enable him to offer the most economic rates or handle traffic for other customers.

Despite road and rail objections throughout the hearing, including a very late one from the Union Cartage Company of London, witnesses from Armours of Liverpool and the Leeds branch of C. H. Dempster Ltd., have made serious complaints about the difficulties of wholesale meat importers in obtaining refrigerated transport.

It is not yet known when the revised application from Mithpax will be heard by the Authority.
