I Authority, Mr. J. R. Lindsay, at Liverpool, on Tuesday, granted an applieation by British Road SerVices (Pickfords), Ltd., to add twO articulated tankers, totalling 23 tons unladen, -to their Liverpool A licence.
Mr. A. W. Balne said the vehicles were designed as hoppers to carry carbon black in bulk frOrn .Stanlow, Cheshire, to Inchinnan, Scotland, under contract to the India Tyre and Rubber Co., Ltd. An A licence was required to carry for other customers in emergencies.
In view of the unpopularity of this type of traffic, added Mr. Balne, it was not surprising that the objectors, O.B. Transport, Ltd., and Catchpole and Sons, Ltd., had failed to appear before. the Authority.
Mr. 0; Parsonage, northern . area manager, said that the 67 tankers based at Liverpool were unsuitable for bulk powders and, in any case, were fully pee upied. Although they were granted eight additional tankers at Liverpool in 1956, only five were in possession. The others had been delayed through difficulty in obtaining stainless-steel tanks. They earned just under £250,000 last year
