Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I HAVE TO take issue with Brian Firth in his assertion that VOSA does not concentrate on the lawbreakers (CM 16 June). Our enforcement strategy is based on targeting the non-compliant. Indeed, there have been articles in this magazine that explain what we are doing and why.

We always investigate information that we receive and, if it is reliable, we act upon it.

This does not always give us instant results.! realise that this can be frustrating to those passing us the information, but please continue to let us any information about illegal operating.

It may take time and sometimes we may not be able to take action, hut! can promise that we will not ignore information that we receive.

To conclude that VOSA "always opts for the easy way" is demonstrably wrong.

I do not think that the 186 impounding operations which we carried out last year could be described as taking the easy option, nor could some of the major prosecutions of operators which we undertook.

Of course there is still room for us to improve our targeting of thebad guys' and that is exactly what we are doing with initiatives such as the use of number plate recognition equipment, greater use of intelligence, and the development of databases designed to identify high-risk vehicles and operators.
