Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Hull-Amsterdam Service Scheme.

Further consideration has been given by Hull municipality to a scheme for an air service between Hull and Amsterdam, which has been advanced by interests represented by Mr. L. P. Hirsh and Mr. C. J. Pooley.

It will be recalled that a Hull-Continental scheme was referred to in this paper on April 7 and 28. The distance from Hedon Aerodrome, Hull, to Amsterdam, passing Grimsby, Skegness, and including a sea crossing of about 100 miles, is approximately 250 miles.

3,336 Private-charter Miles in a Week.

The work of the British Air Navigation Co. Ltd., Heston, for the week to July 1 has involved 3,336 miles of flying. The company's Gull and one of its Puss Moths each returned from Lausanne the other day in just 3i. hours.

India Mail Extended.

As from July 1 the England-India airmail service has been extended from Karachi to Calcutta, by way of Jodhpur, Delhi, Cawnpore, Allahabad and Asansol. The postage rates frosn England for mail for transmission by air beyond Karachi are : Letters, first oz.. 8d.; each additional oz., 7d. Such letters have to be marked " By air in India."

Liverpool (Speke) Aerodrome Opened.

Lord Londonderry, Secretary of State for Air, flew from Hendon on July 2 to open formally the Liverpool municipal aerodrome at Speke. Nearly 200 aircraft and some 30,000 people attended. The aerodrome, on the other side of the Mersey from Hooton, is 350 acres in extent.

East. Yorkshire Service Started.

The thrice-daily Hull-Grimsby air service, announced in our issue dated June 16, duly commenced on July 1, the operators being the North Sea Aerial and General Transport, Ltd., Brough, and East Yorkshire Motor Services, Ltd., Hull.

B.38 Many inquiries have been received for private-charter flights to various places, including Newcastle, London, Scarborough, Bristol, etc.

A Wolseley Aero Engine.

Wolseley Motors (1927), Ltd., Draws Lane, Ward End, Birmingham, announces the AR9 Mark I radial petrol aero engine, which the aircraft industry has eagerly awaited for several months.

It is a nine-cylindered unit with an airscrew reduction ratio of about 1.6 to 1, and it gives 185 b.h.p. at its normal speed of 2,200 r.p.m. The weight (dry) is 452 lb., or 2.44 lb per b.h.p. The fuel C(111S1111111t1011 figure is .583 lb. per b.h.p.-hour.

Airwork Service Department Going Strong, In the past six months the service department of Airwork, Ltd., at Heston airport has carried out 1,160 jobs, varying in degree from daily inspection to complete rebuilding. A new booklet called " Weft Snarl" has been published explaining the service.

Colwyn Bay Line Postponed.

The proposed inauguration of an air service between Cardiff and Colwyn Bay by Messrs. Norman Edgar has been deferred. An inspection of the proposed landing ground at Colwyn Bay from the air revealed that work of preparation would have to be undertaken.

Hillman's Paris Figures Rising.

Hillman's Airways, Romford, gives the following figures of passengers carried in the week to July 2 :—Romford-Clacton line, 43 single journeys ; Romford-Margate line, 32; RumfordParis line, 69.

Wallasey Aerodrome Necessary.

A Wallasey Corporation sub-colnmittee is to deal with an application from Blackpool and West Coast Air Services, Ltd., for a landing ground in connection with the proposed air service between Blackpool and the Isle of Man.

An Air Service to the Outer Hebrides.

Highland Airways, Ltd., is planning to start a second air service, this being from Inverness to the Outer Hebrides. The distance is about 100 miles.

Isle of Wight Ferry Popularity.

Portsmouth, Southsea and Isle of Wight Aviation, Ltd., gives the following figures of passengers carried on its air lines in the week to June 29:Portsmouth-Hyde, 198 single journeys ; Isle of Wight-Shoreham, 7; PortsmouthShanklin, 2"; Ryde-Shanklin, 6; Portsmouth-Shoreham, 1.

Ring's Cup Air Race.

The comparative performances of various light aeroplanes, having engines considerably used in air-transport types, may be observed in the King's Cup Air Race to-morrow, for which the centre is the De Savilland Hatfield aerodrome.

Southport Charter Rates.

The Giro Aviation Co., Hesketh Park Aerodrome, Southport, has for private charter a two-passenger Desouter, a four-passenger Fox Moth, three Avro type-548 two-passenger machines; and one Avro Avian single-passenger biplane. The two-seaters can be hired at £4 and the Fox Moth at £7 per hour.

Handley Page Developments.

The annual report of Handley Page, Ltd., was dealt with last week. At the general meeting it was stated that air liners giving improved performance as compared with the 1JP42, or Hannibal, type can now be offered. Actually, we understand, the company has highly advanced ideas for big commercial aircraft, although it does not necessarily agree that 100-seaters (such as the French are believed to be building) are suitable, because of customs delays.

Hastings Scheme Sanctioned.

Hastings Corporation has obtained sanction for borrowing £10,200 to parchase Pebstam Estate, St. Leonards (381 acres) for an aerodrome.
