Works to hit Watford Gap services

WATFORD GAP SERVICE area on the M1 is set to close temporarily while resurfacing work takes place on the entry and exit slip roads as part of a wider programme. It forms part of a Highways Agency (HA) scheme to resurface a 15-mile stretch of the motorway in Northamptonshire that began this week, and is due to be completed by the end of March 2010. The project includes overnight resurfacing of the southbound carriageway between Junctions 18 and 16 for 10.5 miles, and the northbound carriageway for about five miles to the north of Watford Gap services.

A 50mph speed restriction will be in place, and there will be lane closures and hard shoulder running at times. The works will also result in night closures of the M45 eastbound from the junction at the A45 south of Dunchurch to Junction 17 of the Ml, and slip road closures at the M1 J18 entry skp road and J16 exit slip road when necessary.

Martin Fellows, planning and performance manager for the HA in the East Midlands, says: "Signs will warn motorists when Watford Gap service area will be closed."
