By Christopher Walton SCOTTISH HAULIER Hayton Coulthard has joined up with the Scottish arm of Gregory Distribution, creating a jointventure company called Hayton Coulthard Transport.

The new firm will be owned equally by Hayton Coulthard and Gregory Distribution's parent company GDL (Holdings), but will operate within the GDL (Holdings) group of companies.

It will run out of Hayton Coulthard's base in Twynholm. Dumfries and Galloway, with depots in Lockerbie and London.

Hayton Coulthard was founded in 1916 and runs a fleet of 120 trailers, including curtainsiders and controlled-temperature trailers. It is the family business of the former Formula One racing driver David Coulthard.

The firms have worked closely in the past 10 years, with some of Hayton Coulthard's fleet coming under the control of Gregory Distribution's Scottish operation following the former's high-profile legal issues.

Gregory Distribution chief executive John Gregory tells CA4 the merger will "enhance both our propositions".

He continues: -It streamlines our costs and ensures there are no misunderstandings about the relationship."
