CM COVER STORY

By Joanna Bourke and Roger Brown ONGOING WINTRY weather, including heavy snowfall across much of the country, caused havoc with operators' deliveries over period and into the new year.

Even parcels firm City Link says it has brought in extra resources to maintain service levels.

City Link managing director Stuart Godman tells CM: The inclement weather has meant we have put cost into the operation because we wanted to deliver all parcels before Christmas," He says snow has massively affected its operation.

"Delivery times have and will be affected due to limited depot access and the challenges of rural deliveries where the roads have not been cleared,Godman explains.

Freezing conditions have been affecting operators across the UK since Christmas. Surrey-based Cranleigh Freight Services says three of its trucks were stuck in the Channel Tunnel for more than 24 hours just before Christmas, while one of its lorries was stuck in Calais due to severe weather.

Becky Young, group sales and marketing manager at Cranleigh says the firm had placed extra drivers on standby to help those who were likely to come to the end of their drivers' hours without making deliveries on time.
