Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A scheme to improve the visibility of traffic light signals in Oxford Street, London, has been approved by the Minister of Transport, who has made a grant to St. Marylebone Borough Council towards the cost, estimated at nearly 24,400. These light signals are -among the oldest in London, having been :installed in 1931, when it was the practice to provide only one signal for each traffic stream. Experience has shown that at least two signals are desirable and the Oxford Street system is to be brought into line with modern practice.

It is intended to place additional ,signals on the islands in the centre of the road and at other points where required. .

The . question of converting . the present fixed-time system to the vehicle-actuated method is under examination, although it does not form part of the present scheme.

Canada's First Tram Town Goes Over to Oilers. .

St. Catharines, Ontario, the first town in Canada to operate trains, is now forsaking them in favour of oilengined buses. The first machine—a Leyland 33-seater—has already been placed in service by the Canadian National Transportation, Ltd. It comprises a Tigress normal-control chassis with an all-metal .body.

The origin of Canada's first electric street car is interesting, in that it dates back to 1884, when a horsed car, which had already completed five years' service in St. Catharines, was converted to electric traction; a motor being fitted at the front end and connected to the front axle by chain and sprocket.
