Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Our readers will be informed by the Editor on any points connected with the construction or use of commercial motors. Where a direct reply is desired, a stamped and addressed envelope should be enclosed ; if a request for privacy is not specially made, any query and answer may be published. Some replies, owing to pressure on our space, are held several weeks. Numerous requests reach us for lists of motorcab and commercial-vehicle owners ; these we never supply. Our advertisement columns are open to those who desire to make announcements to

owners for the purposes of trade.

Petrol Locomotives for France.

12512] (Paris).—We have asked the following makers of petrol locomotives to address particulars to you:— Drewry Car Co., Ltd., 13, South Place, London, E.C. ; Motor Rail and Tramcar Co., Ltd., 19, Lombard Street, London, E.C.

Americans Seek Illustrations and Lists.

[2513] (Consul-General).—The nearest approach to the requirements of your correspondents is provided in our Overseas Annual of January last. This does not give typical illustrations in every ease; your correspondents should refer to the file of this journal for the issues of the 17th and 24th July, 1913, containing the Olympia Show report, for further assistance of that kind.

A "Dug-out" Early Three-tonner.

[2514] (Birmingham).—We know the type of machine a,bout which you write. It is, however, impossible for us to give an opinion of any value as to its suitability unless we have an opportunity of examining its condition. The model is a very old one and we should hot ourselves be inclined to think you would be free from trouble on acquiring it. If the machine requires new tires on the back wheels, it is probably not worth 290. We regret we are unable to help you more closely, without an inspection.

War Office Subsidy Details.

L25151 (Coventry).—The War Office has standardized three sazes of grease cup, the smallest of which is to be used on shackle pins. These are specified as being similar to Rotherham's No. 2, being 1 in. diameter across body of cup to be screwed, .9 in. diameter on threads of cup, the shanks being .5 in. diameter, 16 threads per inch in both eases. A spring catch must be provided to prevent loss of the cap, and it is preferred that a handle or some such device should be included, to facilitate its removal for replenishment. Shackle bolts prepared for the reception of the cap specified above will be accepted. The complete specification for petrol lorries, as issued by the War Office, may be obtained from Messrs Harrison, St.. Martin's Lane, W.C.

WheretCan They Get Delivery Quickly [2516] (Salford).—We think you will get good attention from one or other of the following makers : Siddeley-Deasy Motor Car Co., Ltd., Parkside, Coventry. Lacre Motor Car Co., Ltd., York Road, King's Cross, N.

Napier Motors, Ltd., 14, New Burlington Street, W. Belsize Motors, Ltd., Clayton, Manchester. Palladium Autocars, Ltd., Normand Road, Fulham, S.W.

Star Engineering Co., Ltd., Wolverhampton. W. A. Stevens, Ltd., 26, Victoria Street, Westminster, S.W.

Wolseley Motors, Ltd., Adderley Park, Birmingham.

Some of these makers eater specially for vehicles capable of carrying 35 cwt. or two tons, as well as for 25-cwt. vehicles, but we would commend to your attention the advantage of having a margin in load capacity to meet developments which usually follow the acquirement of a commercial vehicle.

012 There is No Great Demand in the Industry for Other Assistance than that of Machinists and Artificers.

[2517] (Potteries).—The article which was published under the title of " Employment or Enlistment ?" concerned skilled artisans and mechanics, and did not refer to professional men or men on the engineering staffs. The present is a bad time for you to try to get into the industry; experienced sales-staff men are by no means fully occupied largely because there is at the moment, and likely to be so long as the war lasts, virtually only one big customer—the War Office. Matters may improve a few months hence, by reason of newcomers in the industry. Perhaps you will not be averse to applying to the Daimler, the Wolseley, the Leyland, the Commercar, or other makers, and taking a job in the works for experience? You will certainly get employment if you apply, provided you have had any training as a machinist, but it must be on your merits.
