Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

NO SPECIAL Government aid for Stonefield Vehicles, still in th hands of receiver Bill Brownlie, was promised by the Governmen when the fate of the Scottish firm was raised in the Commons las week.

If a viable proposition was put to the receiver by a suitable private sector interest that would revive operations, the Government would consider it. Financial Secretary to the Treasury Nigel Lawson answering a plea for help from George Foulkes (Labour, South Ayrshire).

Mr Foulkes pointed out that the Government had decided to invest E990m in British Leyland, while the DeLorean Car Company in Northern Ireland, which had already been guaranteed £67m wanted still more. Yet only E2m would save Stonefield.

But Sir Albert Costain (Tory, Folkestone and Hythe) said the Labour Government had made a rotten investment in Stonefield and it was no use blaming the present Government if the company could not sell its vehicles.
