ENTERPRISE ZONES could harm existing hauliers, according to the Road Haulage Association which has finally expressed an opinion on the Government's plan.

A spokesman told CM this week: "We are not at all keen on these 'shanty towns' where operators can set up and undercut reputable operators in neighbouring areas." He went on to describe the haulage industry as a "mobile enterprise zone".

The provision to exempt firms in EZs from training board levy and from supplying statistical information to ITBs is included in the Government's Employment and Training Bill, published last week, though the boards will still be able to help such firms.
