Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I AM 33 years old and have spent most of my working life in and around the transport industry. Both in the workshops and on the road I have more than proved my worth.

For the last three and a half years I have worked for a company as a driver/demonstrator in the forklift business, driving a low loader throughout the UK delivering, collecting, and demonstrating forklift trucks.

This year I was rewarded for my efforts by being promoted to group transport manager controlling low loaders from seven depots throughout the UK. I took the CPC course and passed. Since then, owing to the recession I have been made redundant. I have recently won a claim for unfair dismissal, being awarded compensation. However, it still leaves me unemployed.

I have been for interview after interview but it does seem to me that when I declare the truth that I have been made redundant, and have a CPC, no one wants to employ me as a driver, for which I have excellent references going back over a number of years.

I have had loads of experience both as a hgv driver and psv driver. I currently hold both licences.

I have driving experience on first-class vehicles, yet as soon as I mention the words redundant and CPC it puts employers off. Why?

Have all my past efforts been in vain? I would gladly like to get back on the road again, but it seems to me that employers don't want good drivers with good references, that have taken the time and trouble coupled with effort and hard work to learn the industry the right way.

I know industry is suffering and there are over two million people unemployed. Employers can take their pick, but they don't seem to want anyone out of a dole queue. It seems that quality doesn't count anymore!

Perhaps there are others experiencing the same thing. Perhaps you could enlighten us as to why.
