ATTACKING the Government' proposals to overthrow the pre sent system of industria training, Transport Trainin published by the RTITB, say "distance learning techniques through an 'open tech' shoul be used to assist with problem of adult training and, more espe cially, retraining."

Far from leading enchant ment, distance has left me in a complete fog.

The road transport industry has invested £191/2m capital in training more than four million people, says the RTITB. Over the whole industrial spectrum, boards provided training for 13m people, with a staff of only 4,500, at a cost of 71/2p per person per week in 1979-80.

On the face of it, these are impressive figures and seem to lend evidence to the Conservative Government's Industrial Training Act of 1964. But that Government was, of course, led by Edward Heath, whose name should not be spoker 'r front of the children.
