Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AN APPLICATION by a subsidiary of the Tyne and Tees PTE, to run an express coach service between Newcastle upon Tyne and Manchester Airport, is opposed by 'National Travel (North East) Ltd.

Galleys Coaches Ltd applied, at Newcastle last week, for an unforeseen licence pending the hearing of its substantive application.

Mr G. E. Hutchinson, for the PTE, said both the applicant and R. Armstrong Ltd were subsidiaries of the Executive and the latter had carried passengers of Tyro

lean . Travel, Harrow, Middlesex, from Newcastle to Manchester Airport last year under contract arrangements.

The PTE now wanted to advertise the service and to run on Saturdays from Easter at a fare of £2 in each direction. There was a guarantee from Tyrolean Travel of £56 per coach.

Opposing any grant a National Travel representative said United Automobile Services Ltd, Darlington, already held a road service licence for operation between Newcastle and Manchester Airport. There had already been contact with Tyrolean Travel concerning other services.

The Commissioners adjourned the hearing and the chairman, Mr J. A. T. Hanlon, said there should be consultation between the parties to see if agreement could he reached.

After the hearing, Mr J. Cole, managing director of Tyrolean Travel, said his company did not mind who provided the service but it had been very satisfied with that of Armstrong in 1974.
