Route Planning

"TWO maps just published by the Ordnance Survey are J. designed particularly for long-distance road users. They are called Route Planning Map, Sheet I and Sheet 2. Sheet I covers Scotland and the northern counties of England and Sheet 2 the remainder of England and the whole of Wales. The scale is 10 miles to one inch.

Special features of the maps which are very clearly printed include sea and air ferry terminal points, tables of distances between main towns and large-scale inset maps of a number of important towns, including Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow and London. Spot Welding Timer ACOMPACT and accurate MIG/CO, spot weld timing unit as recently been introduced by British Oxygen for use with the Lynx It wire feed unit and MRCS 200B welding power source.

The equipment consists of a printed circuit electronic timer, connecting leads and special nozzles. There are only two controls, one selecting weld time, the other " spot " or normal welding. Welding times can be varied between 0-3 and 4-5 seconds and an accuracy of ± 2 per cent for a voltage change of ± 10 per cent is claimed at temperatures between 18° and 45° C.

Giant Tyre Balancing

WITH the increased number of motorways, the resulting VV opportunity for commercial vehicles to be driven at relatively high speed and the introduction of lightweight vehicles with more sensitive steering, there is nowadays more need for the correction of static unbalance in wheels and tyres to prevent vibration. Dunlop has now developed a giant tyre and wheel balancing machine which meets this need.

Called the WBM/15, it will correct static unbalance in tyres and wheel assemblies of 6.50 rim section up to 12.0024. A floor space of only 3 ft. by 1 ft. 7 in. is required and floor fixing is unnecessary.

Changes to Servicemaster ANUMBER of alterations have been made to the design of the Servicemaster injector nozzle reconditioning machines made by the Merlin Engineering Co. Ltd. With the changes the two models offered become the NR.1 and NR.2 to replace the R.I and R.2 respectively, and basically the new machines have the same layout of units as their predecessors. They are available as bench or cabinet versions.

The main alteration is that the pedestal stand previously available is replaced by a steel cabinet with shelves and a drawer. Controls are now grouped on the front of the machine and ' another change is that the flexible drive to the work head is replaced by an independent motor drive.

Timber Products A BROCHURE just published for the Gliksten group of I—I companies describes the activities of each of the individual concerns in the timber and timber products industry.

Hardwoods are a speciality of Gliksten and an interesting section in the 58-page brochure describes (and explains the uses of) all hardwoods currently available, with photographs showing grain and colour of 17 of them, mainly those from West Africa.

Keeps Dirt Out A NEWLY developed matting material—Duramat—marketed by Progress (Universal) Ltd. quickly and easily removes dirt from shoes without the need for forcefnl scraping and wiping. The product is available in I ft_ 9 in. or 3 ft. 6 in. wide rolls and in mats with a sponge underlay 2 ft. 10 in. by 1 ft, 9 in. In wet weather Duramat rolls are ideal for entrances to buildings, for corridors and so on. The surface of the matting is a complex ribbing—sufficiently strong to withstand heavy traffic.
