MITTEE, which decided some time ago against the policy of building a municipal bus station, is being urged by the transport manager, Mr. N. Morton, to reconsider the matter. Mr. Morton said that the emphasis in transport circles today was to provide greater convenience and comfort for passengers. A bus station would allow passengers to change from one bus to another without being exposed to the weather. He also pro
posed the fitting of a luggage rack in the lower decks of new rear-engined buses, for the benefit of shoppers, while two extractor fans could be fitted in the upper deck to dispel smoke.
Mr. Morton has reported to the committee that during the past four or five years, the number of passengers carriedi has fallen by 13 per cent. Most of the weekday loss • was after 6 p.m. which seemed to indicate that television and not car ownership was responsible, he added.
