AN excellent example of the severe stress that is being placed on bus companies is afforded by statistics which have just been issued by the Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co., Ltd., comparing operations in 1946 with those in 1945 and 1938.

Between 1938 and 1946. annual' mileage has risen by 8,023,783 and the number of passengers carried by 146,026,097, whereas the fleet has increased by only 94 buses.
