REPRESENTATIVES of the National Conference of Trade and Industry on Transport (Liverpool District andNorth Wales Section) comprised a deputation to Mr. C. N. Shawcross, M.P., to present to him their views on aspects of the Transport Bill.

Members explained that one of the reasons why the proposed 40-mile limit would hamper them was that, in certain trades, special skill was demanded of the driver in the loading, handling, and delivery of the goods, and in the collection of other goods required for the return journey. Drivers and other employees had a knowledge of the trade concerned, whereas drivers and others of a State organization could not be expected to have this specialized experience.

Mr. Shawcross undertook to make a full report of these representations to the members of the Government who would be in charge of the Bill in the committee stage in the House of Commons.

The fruit and vegetable, timber, brewery, glass, and electric cable trades were among those represented by the deputation.
