" 'THE ignorance on transport

1 matters displayed by some candidates of all parties, who were interviewed during the General Election, was astonishing to those who met them. As this lack of knowledge was found, on occasion, even in men who had been members of the past Parliament, the need for continued propaganda is manifest," said Mr. J. S. Howarth, secretary of the Amalgamated Horse and Motor Owners Association and the C.M.U.A. South-East Lancs Area (joint organization), to a representative of The Commercial Motor, this week.

In order to obtain full advantage of the sympathy towards road transport that was expressed in the answers re

ceived to the questionnaire submitted to Parliamentary candidates, the joint council of this organization has planned interviews with Members of Parliament elected by constituencies in the SouthEast Lance area. It will be the aim of each deputation, it is stated, to place before the members detailed information on any point likely to come before the' House.

Particular stress is to be laid upon excessive taxation, meagre expenditure on road development in relation to the means available, and injustices being suffered by operators of passenger and goods vehicles; through the administration of the 1930 and 1933 Acts, and the Orders made under them.
