Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AN important addition to the range of Karrier chassis has now been developed for the carrying of 7-ton loads. Hitherto, the largest of the Karrier range of four-wheeled, goodscarrying vehicles was the K5, which was capable of dealing with 6-ton loads, that model having been supplied with the alternative wheelbases of 14 ft. and 15 ft.

The new 7-tonner is to be known as the K7, and it will have a 16-ft. wheelbase, thus accommodating a body of

large capacity, which Will be particularly useful in such cases as those where the goods to be carried are bulky in nature. A. body weight of 1 ton is allowed for, thus bringing the gross load of the vehicle to 8 tons. The other important dimensions of this chassis are as follow :—Wheel track, 5 ft. 10 ins.; overall .length of chassis, 25 ft. 11 in. ; overall width, T ft. 3 ins. The height of the chassis frame from the ground with a laden vehicle on it is 3 ft., and the minimum ground clearance allowed is 111 ins. The distance from the dash to the end of the frame is 20 ft. 51 ins.,

and this gives a platform space of 16 ft. The weight of the chassis is 3 tons 16 cwt. and, when packed for shipment, an extra ton must be allowed, the shipping dimensions then being 25 ft. 6 ins. by 4 ft. 10 ins. by 3 ft. 8 ins.

The engine is four-cylindered, the cylinder bore being 5 ins, and the piston stroke 6 ins. The cylinders are cast monobloc with a detachable head. The upper half of the crankcase is supported in the frame at three points. The engine develops 60 h.p. at 1,000 r.p.m. and its maximum h.p. is 82. The valves are all disposed at one side, and the water pump is situated at the near side of the engine, unitwise with the oil pump. The lubricating oil is circulated by a positively driven gear pump. The power is taken through an adjustable cone clutch, leather-lined and totally enclosed, to the gearbox, -which gives four forward speeds and reverse. the final gear ratios being: top, 8.95 to 1; third, 15.6 to 1; second, 29.95 to 1; and first, 45.7 to 1; the ratio of the reverse gear being 56.4 to 1.

The propeller shaft transmits the power through a crown wheel to •a second reduction gear. Steel disc wheels are provided equipped with 720 ram. by 160 ram. single tyres on the front and 881 rem, by 160 mm.. twin tyres on the rear. Besides the hand internal-expanding brakes operating on the rear wheels, a foot-operated external-contracting brake is employed in the transmission line. The linings of the wheel brakes are of bonded asbestos fabric, whilst the transmission brake linings are of cast-iron, quickly detachable and easy to renew. The petrol tank is fitted under the driver's seat and has a capacity of 30 gallons. The frame is immensely strong, being 8 ins, deep by 3 ins, wide

in the flanges and in. thick, and is stiffened by tension rods below the longitudinal runners.

The price of this chassis is £950, and when fitted with cab and platform body £1,075.
