Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A New Pumping Plant Which Gives a Feed of Water for Vehicle Washing at a Nozzle Pressure of 300 lb.

rIN the subject of the equipment of IL/the garage for buses or coaches a long article could be written and we can promise that such an article shall appear in an early issue of this journal. It would deal with• trolley jacks and cranes, tyre-changing stands and appliances, compressor units, air-storage tanks, engine stands, tyre presses, breakdown equipment, vulcanizers and general-repair plants. We think, however, that it is only necessary to indicate these few of the many items to show that the proprietor of publicservice vehicles is well catered for by equipment specialists such as Harvey Frost and Co., Ltd., and to pick out for description here the H.F. Hydroforce washer, which has just been put on the market. Nowadays, water at the pressure of service mains, aided by sponges and brushes, makes the washing of large vehicles too slow and costly in labour, and so the Hydroforce Avasher is introduced to boost up the pressure to 300 lb. per square inch and to feed it through hose to a dual gun so devised that it can be projected as a jet or .a spray according to the nature of the surface to be cleansed of mud or dirt.

An electric motor wound for the standard voltage (or at 15 extra for alternating current, single phase) drives a Worthington-Simpson triplex pump. Every part is accessible, yet none is exposed, and the highest efficiency is ensured. The price of the outfit is £85, but for the pumping plant arranged to be driven by belt the price is £65.

The "dual gun" (of which two are provided with the plant) is arranged to give absolute control of the water flow, an adjusting ring giving either a jet or spray, and each of them is equally effective. With such an apparatus the job of washing down a large vehicle with two men, one at each gun, is facilitated and considerably quickeneo.

The horse-power required does not exceed two, and this gives sufficient force to the water to make it effective and, in consequence, economicin the matter of water volume, for the incrustation under mudguards, on wheels, brake drums and axles gives way to the pressure, and the hard scrubbing which must accompany a lowpressure water supply in almost cut out. The supply can be converted into a mist of water so fine that the most delicate surface can be cleaned with it. An overhead swivelling Pipe is a refinement which keeps the hose off the floor and facilitates the work of washing:
