Poor Facilities Result in Unrepresentative Display of Business Vehicles.

Exactly why this year's motor show, at Glasgow, is held in such an unpretentious, and unsuitable, building, as the Drill Hall, in West Prince's Street, passes our comprehension. It is quite clear that, had the promoters been able to offer more accommodation, other important manufacturers in the Glasgow district would have taken space, of whom we may cite Alley and MacLellan, Limited, and IIalley's Industrial Motors, Limited. In the result, from the point of view of a visitor who might wish to study the utility side of motoring, the exhibition is a disappointment. We are informed, unofficially, that the building which was occupied last year, and which served to house a representative collection of heavy vehicles, as reported in the issue of this journal for the 15th March, 1906, was-found to be defective in the roofing, and that this prevented the leasing, on this occasion, of the building in Hillfoot Street, Dennistoun.

THE NEW ARROL-JOIINSTON CAR COMPANY, LIMITED, of Underwood Works, Paisley, exhibits one of its 12r5h.p. 1-ton covered vans, for which the company is receiving, each succeeding month, an increasing number of orders. The engine is of the company's wellknown two-cylinder, horizontal type, in which special attention has been given to the subject of perfect balance : it has 41-inch cylinders, with a pistonstroke of 6i inches, and runs, normally, at a speed of Soo r.p.m. Its working parts are arranged for ready accessibility, and the pistons, connecting rods, etc., can be removed for examination

without disturbance of the cylinders, or breaking of the water or combustionchamber joints. Lubrication is entirely automatic, and a Hele-Shaw, metal-tometal, multiple-disc clutch is employed, and is so arranged that there is no endthrust of the crankshaft. The use of this clutch has proved to increase the life of the gears and the tires. Every detail of this machine is of the highest quality, and its design, throughout, fits it for business use.

THE ALBION MOTOR CAR COMPANY, LIMITED, of Scotstoun, Glasgow, has on view one of its very successful, 15

seated, ih.p. char-A-bancs, and this. should be examined by all who go to the Show. The simplicity of control,. and the ease of changing gear are outstanding features, whilst the solidity of construction cannot fail to attract.

TIIE Si. VINCENT MOTOR AND CYCLE COMPANY, LIMITED, Of 161-169, North Street, Glasgow, includes, amongst other vehicles staged, a 14h.p. I-tort delivery van, and this is arranged to be adaptable for use as a shooting, or hotel, brake, with a capacity for 12 passengers. An Aster, or a Ballot, engine is fitted, at buyer's option. The transmission is of the usual slidinggear, and side-chain, type, and three forward speed ratios, all controlled by a single lever, are provided, a free use being made of ball bearings throughout. Royal Sirdar, buffer, solid-rubber tires, of 5-inch section, are fitted to the back wheels, and 815mm. by io5mm. Clincher pneitmatics to the front wheels.

THE RITM.RY MOTOR COMPANY, LIMITED, of Paisley, exhibits' a small single-cylinder van, as illustrated herewith, and this should prove of use for the conveyance of very light loads.
