These days you never know what's going to fall off the back of a lorry. Motorists in Manchester's rush hour traffic certainly got a fright when a coffin slid out of the back of a van onto the road and the van drove off.

As the goose bumps took hold no one would go near the coffin. We thought we should do something but we weren't sure if someone was inside it," said Alan Cardwell, who was working nearby. "We're big lads, but we all got a bit squeamish about going near it."
