• Lorry operators will find the cost of trucks ever more competitive in the next five years in a trend that could put the future of independent vehicle rental operators at risk.
The growth in truck manufac turer-owned vehicle hire and leasing businesses could "produce cut-throat competition in the truck market", says the December issue of Glass's Guide to commercial vehicle values.
"This worries the indepen dent rental operators. both big and small, who suspect that by the end of the decade manufacturer-run rental enterprises could severely encroach on their present market dominance," the guide says.
