AN addition to the Austin range in the shape of the A35 pick-up, was announced this week by the Austin Motor Co., Ltd., Longbridge, Birmingham. Back-axle reduction is 4.55 to I.

Being based on the A35 private-car chassis, the front, wheels are independently sprung, using wishbones and coil springs, with normal leaf springs at the rear. Hydraulic shock absorbers are used all round, with the addition of a stabilizer at the rear.

Braking is by Lockheed hydraulic units with two-leadingshoe components at the front. The drums are 7 in. in diameter by 13 in. wide. The pressed-steel disc wheels are equipped with 5.60-13-in, tubeless tyres.

The neat pick-up body is of all-steel unitary construction, with a fully stressed skin. The nominal load capacity is 5 cwt., the floor space at the rear measuring 4 ft. by 3 ft. 114 in. The mean height of the sides is 1 ft. 21 in. A neat tonneau cover is used for enclosing the luggage space, which has a capacity of about 15 cu. ft.

Deliveries are expected to start in the New Year, but so far no prices have been announced.
