Better drivers slash fuel bills

TELEMATICS SPECIALIST lsotrak says its latest tests suggest that hauliers could save 19% in fuel bills if drivers practised fuelsaving driving styles.

This includes gentle acceleration and braking, optimal use of cruise control and avoiding too much idling.

The 19% saving was made over four days monitoring a Scania 6x2 rigid. Initially the driver achieved 7.09mpg but increased this to 8.68mpg by using efficient driving techniques

Craig Sears-Black, lsotrak's sales and marketing director, says: With fuel typically costing between 235,000 and £45000 per year per HGV, representing 30%-35% of running costs, transport operators are under unprecedented pressure to minimise their fuel consumption. The good news is that better driving can save over £8,000 of fuel per annum."
