Is Edinburgh skip operator Stephen Dalton has bought a combined hookloader/skiploader from Hyva (UK) which is thought to be the only one of its kind in the UK.

The rig comprises a CHEM-standard HS20 hookloader frame mounted on a Volvo FL10 8x4 chas sis. It can handle an 18 tonne Nooteboom skiploader with a telescopic loading arm.

"Our principal objectives were the safety of the operator and the equipment," says Hyva director Peter Starbuck. The two units are interlocked so that only one system can be operated at any time. Additional locking pins and tie-rods keep the skiploader rigidly in place during operation.

The demountable skiploader is now available for retrofitting to any hookloader; Hyva quotes an installation time of three days.
