• Volvo has sold its 11.4% stake in Renault, raising around £.450m and finally ending the merger plans which stalled in 1993. Renault still retains a 3% holding in Volvo.

• Dodd's Group has bought 17 FH12.380 Volvo tractors, giving it 63 FHs in a fleet of 180. Most of the new units are in UK Paper livery and will run by Dodd's Group member 21st Century Logistics in Strood.

• Fareham-based CPG Logistics has bought four 220hp Scania P94 rigids with Solent bodywork and Ray Smith tail-lifts. They bring CPG's fleet to 18 and will be used to support its growing UK/Continental groupage work.

• Bonds Worldwide Express has bought 30 Citroen Berlingos for its London base and depot at Birmingham Airport. The Berlingos will cover up to 90,000 miles per year. The company already operates around 60 C15 Champs and Relay 1000s in its 100-strong fleet.

• Wheel manufacturers Speedline (Italy) and Amcast (USA) have merged. Speedline produces more than three million wheels a year; Amcast made 2.5 million wheels in 1996. The companies claim customers will benefit from better service and technology.
