Traders Should Wait, Says L.N.E.R. A railWay-opposed application, which was regarded as being of considerable importance, was granted by Mr. J. Fl. Stirk, East Midland Licensing Authority, at Skegness, last week.

Strong opposition to the application of Messrs. Fox Bros., Lincoln, for an additional lorry was offered by the L.N,E. Railway Co. The latter submitted that the evidence of increased trade did not justify the granting of an additional licence. Made-up timber goods could not be treated in the same light as an express letter and it was unreasonable to expect transit of such material at unduly short notice.

The applicants replied that the railway method was not comparable with that of road transport. When a lorry was loaded, the consignee knew that it was going direct to its destination. Road transport minimized loss of time, etc., by workmen who were awaiting the arrival of the articles required.

The licence was granted.
