Chelsea Borough Council has decided to make a strong protest to the Minister of Transport against the draft Motor Vehicles (Construction arid [Ise) Regulations. The proposed regulations as to overhang, stated the works and general purposes committee, would affect 15 of the council's 20 vehicles, which were used almost entirely in the collection and disposal of refuse, and it was essential that these services should be maintained.

An exchange qf vehicles between the Hay's Wharf and Pickfords concerns is proposed in Great Yarmouth, Norwich, and Southend-onSea, and applications have been made accordingly to the Eastern Licensing Authority.

The railways hold an interest in all three companies.

Official Orders in June.

During June, the War Department ordered Morris-Commercial ambulance chassis, Mann Egerton ambulance bodies, and A.E.C., Crossley, Guy and Leyland 3-ton chassis. The Air Ministry placed a contract for bodies and cabs with Charles Roberts and Co., Ltd. The G.P.O. authorities ordered bodies from Duple Bodies and Motors, Ltd., Thomas Harrington, Ltd., and W.

• Harold Perry, Ltd., also Moths-Commercial vans and lorries. Merryweather fire-engines and tenders were ordered by the Crown Agents for the Colonies.

Hull Turning to Trelleybuses.

Hull Corporation has accepted tenders for the supply of 26 56-seater trolleybuses; the chassis will be of Leyland make and will carry M.C.W.

bodies. This is the first order for trolleybuses placed by the municipality since the passing of the Bill which allows the corporation to convert its tramways to trolleybus operation.

Europe's Biggest Swing Bridge to Open Shortly.

The new bridge over the Forth, at Kincardine, is to be opened in October. It will be the largest road bridge in Scotland, with a 30-ft. carriageway and two footpaths on 14 arches, each 100 ft. wide. The centre span, bearing 100 yds. of roadway, will pivot on a centre pier to allow vessels to pass between Alloa and the sea. This swing will be the largest mobile bridge section in Europe.

The bridge, the first link in a new highway between Edinburgh and Aberdeen, will shorten the route between Glasgow and Dunfermline by 10 miles and between Edinburgh and Dunfermline by 19 miles. It has cost 4250,000,
