Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

We illustrate below the new three-ton Sheppee steam lorry. III our illustration the vehicle is shown with the casing of the silent-chain detached, and the transmission system thus disclosed.

This machine has been subjected to very severe tests, since its completion some weeks ago, particularly up the famous 'hill known as Sutton Bank, near Thirsk, in Yorkshire. We are told that this hill has never hitherto been climbed by a commercial vehicle, but some of our readers may have knowledge of yet another excellent performance of the kind. The new Sheppee lorry, which is the first of a new "breed " of steamers, has only one gear ratio—of six to one between the engines and the road wheels. With this gear, speeds of from 15 to 18 m.p.h. can be maintained with ease, on an ordinary i give-andtake road, under full load. The fuel used s common paraffin.

From advices as to progress to date, we gather that several other makers are well advanced with the construction of new superheated systems in which high.grade steel and other materials will be used.
