Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Check out the CM tech team’s A-Z guide for everything you need to know about the CV Show

is for Actros: The return of the lagship truck is exempliied by the Mercedes-Benz Actros. A pair of them will take pride of place on the Mercedes stand this year, a MegaSpace and a driver training truck. While you are there, why not ask Mercedes about its newly announced Euro-6 engine? If you can ind out exactly when it will be launched in the UK, and what truck it will irst appear in, then please let us know!

is for bodybuilders: Most transport sectors will be catered for, with the likes of Bevan Group, with its Call2Action PDA technology and range of working-at-height solutions, to the debut of the Dulevo range of mechanical sweepers through its UK agent Pelican Engineering. Keep an eye out for Solomon as well, as it launches its new aerodynamic bodywork Slipstream, which goes around the refrigeration unit to reduce drag.

is for CPC and driver training: In two-and-ahalf years every HGV licence holder will have to have completed ive days of training, and there’s a whole host of companies offering certiied CPC courses at this year’s show. TIR’s stand, which will resemble a mobile class room, is likely to be particularly popular as it will be demonstrating a pair of new driver training simulators. is for drivers’ hours and tachographs: Tacho talk at the Show is sure to be centred on Annex 1B – which logs the longest continuous activity undertaken within a given minute entirely to that action. Many tachograph manufacturers are preparing for the regulation change, due in October, by launching new products. Stoneridge will unveil its SE5000 ExaktTM next-generation digital tachograph, while Continental Automotive will be demonstrating its remote downloading system. Make sure to clock-in at the CV Show next week.

is for Euro-6: It is going to be the hot topic at this year’s Show. In December 2013 the strictest emissions regulations so far will come into force, and it will have a huge effect on the industry. Manufacturers will tackle it with a combination of EGR, SCR and a particulate trap, making trucks dearer, heavier, more complex and possibly thirstier too. A lot of operators will want to delay dabbling in Euro-6 for as long as possible and are likely to enter 2014 with a leet of new Euro-5s. If you are one of them, this could be a great opportunity to talk to the truck manufacturers and inance companies about your plans.

is for fuel and fuel management: It’s a hot topic, and the chances are any company offering fuel cards or fuel management will be keen to help the operator reduce the cost of paying for it. UK Card Services is running a diesel price guarantee through its 1,700 sites promising to match the price of any other fuel card on the market or refund the difference. SSL offers bespoke solutions through long-term partnerships is for GPS, tracking and telematics: Tracking devices are well-represented at the Show with exhibitors including Road Angel, Mandata and Isotrak. Drop in on the TomTom stand to ind out about Worksmart Eco, its new unit to help you go green, and don’t forget to set your GPS devices to 52°27°12°N 1°43°10°W for the show hall.

is for Hino: Hino has hit the ground running in 2011 with some key deals, and it’s reiterating its philosophy of being able to satisfy any order immediately. With its established 700-Series at 26 and 32 tonnes, the Hino range is boosted by a 4x2 tractor, a robust 18-tonner in the shape of the 500 series, and the 300 Series at 5.5, 6.5 and 7.5 tonnes.

is for Isuzu: The new Rodeo Range takes centre stage on the Isuzu (UK) stand and comes off the back of a stonking start to 2011, with sales of the Rodeo model up 111%, compared with the same time last year. Central to this success is the 2.5-litre diesel Rodeo Denver and Rodeo Denver Max models. is for jubilee clips... and the countless other gizmos, gadgets, nicknaks, accessories, widgets and whatchamacallits that make the CV Show so interesting. This year there are no less than 62 accessory manufacturers and distributors present.

is for kilograms (kg): Weight is of course a big issue, so to help you maximise your payload and stay on the right side of the law, make sure you check out the latest axle weighing products. Axtec – the oficially sanctioned provider of weighbridges to VOSA – will be in attendance with its new onboard weighing system designed to keep your kilos under control.

is for load restraints: With VOSA focusing on making sure all cargo is properly secured, especially in curtainsiders, there should be something for every operator to improve load restraint at the CV Show. Nets4You supplies bespoke and ready-made options for all types of transport, and Spanset UK will be exhibiting solutions for working-at-height, lifting, and load movement.

is for MAN: It will be using the CV Show to demonstrate its commitment to improving its customers’ bottom line. Visitors to its stand will be able to learn about numerous recent money-saving initiatives, including its parts programme MAN Valueline and the three-year warranty that’s now standard across its entire new truck range. But rest assured there’ll be plenty of trucks on the stand too. And in a break from tradition this year, they will all be in operators’ liveries.

is for NEC: The NEC will be the only place to be from

12-14 April when it opens its doors for this year’s CV Show. Over 350 exhibitors will be in attendance covering over 42,000m3 – that’s 80% bigger than last year. Doors are open from 8:30 until 17:30 every day and you can register for your free show tickets at http://bit.ly/hUCVKa.

is for operators: Every stand will be targeting the operator, offering products that make them faster, safer, cheaper, more consistent, and more fuel-eficient. Perhaps the nearest thing to an operator at the show is Palletforce. This pallet distribution giant has a £30m central hub and more than 100 depots across the UK.

is for professional trade bodies: Not only is the CV Show organised by the Road Haulage Association (RHA) and the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), but it’s also a great time to talk directly to the trade bodies that represent your industry. As well as the RHA and SMMT, representatives the Freight Transport Association (FTA) can also be found in the show halls. And VOSA’s there too.

is for quiet electric vehicles: The CV Show is also a great place to ind out about new technology, and the electric vehicle market is one of the most dynamic in our sector. Leading lights in the EV market will be at the show including hybrid specialist Ashwoods Automotive and Smith Electric, which will unveil its new crew-cab electric Transit van.

is for rental, leasing and inancial services: Tempted by something you’ve seen at the Show? Maybe it’s time to get your inances sorted. Exhibitors operating in this sector include BNP Paribas Leasing, Pullman Fleet Services and Shire Recoveries.

is for security: If it’s your cargo you are worried about, both Armaplate and Locks4Vans will have plenty of locks to show you. Cobra can count anti-theft alarms among the numerous devices it will be displaying, while TruckMinder on the other hand has a range of products to help prevent the theft of your fuel, catalytic converter and battery. And if you want to prevent people fabricating false insurance claims against you, be sure to check out the CCTV recording systems on the Centrad stand. Security Solutions by Maple Fleet Services is worth a visit too, it’s got 38 years of experience of keeping your goods and vehicles safe. is for trailers: These are well covered at the CV Show, and exhibitors include specialist manufacturer Oldbury UK. You’ll want to visit the SJC Group stand for moving-loor manufacturer Kraker Trailers, while Welgro will be showing its bulk trailers and tanks for cattle feed and food stuff. Whale Tankers, which has a stainless steel tri-axle tipping-trailer for hazardous waste, will be present too. TRP offers all-makes parts for trailers (and trucks), and VBG returns to the CV Show with a range of heavy duty drawbar couplings.

is for urea: As the prospect of Euro-6 looms, bringing with it a combination of EGR and SCR, AdBlue will become an even more vital commodity for your trucks. Leading AdBlue suppliers Bluecat, Greenchem and Greenox will all be at the show to talk you through supply, storage and delivery.

is for vans: Citroën, Fiat, Ford, Hyundai, Isuzu, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Peugeot, Renault, Tata and Volkswagen will all be at the NEC with a number of brand new models. Highlights include the launch of the Mercedes-Benz Vito E-Cell and the Euro-5 Citroën Nemo, as well as two UK debuts from Ford with the new Ranger pick-up and Transit Connect Electric. VW will also show a double-cab version of the Amarok while an electric version of the Ace chassis cab, which has been developed in the UK, will be the main draw on the Tata stand.

is for wheels and tyres: Tyres play a vital part in your annual costs, so staying up to date with the latest tyre technology is a no-brainer. Equally if your operation is weight-sensitive you’ll want the best and lightest wheel on the market. Head to Alcoa for the latest in its lightweight aluminium wheels, and see the cutting edge of fuel-saving tyres from Bridgestone and Michelin. The latter will also have a brand new XDW Ice Grip tyre on display. is for XF105: It is one of four trucks you can expect to see on DAF’s stand. But although lagship tractors normally attract the most attention, this year the XF is going to get some competition from DAF’s all-new LF Hybrid. This Leyland-built 12-tonner is capable of slashing fuel bills by between 10% and 20% depending on the application. “The return of the CV Show is tremendously positive for the truck industry and DAF is looking forward to welcoming all customers, industry contacts and visitors to the stand,” says Tony Pain, DAF marketing director.

is for your favourite magazines: Commercial Motor, Motor Transport and Truck & Driver – of course. Make sure you are on the Road Transport Media stand for 11am on the Tuesday, because that’s when we’ll be announcing the Motor Transport Awards Fleet Van and Fleet Truck shortlists. And while you are there, why not test your knowledge of the rules of the road with CM’s CV Show quiz – you might even walk away with a brand new iPad. There’ll be lots more too, including the chance to save 40% on a subscription to Commercial Motor.

You’ll ind the heart of the road transport industry at stand 5J60. is for zone: Well, the London Low Emission Zone (LLEZ) to be exact! The LLEZ is due to change on 3 January 2012, becoming stricter still for trucks and including vans for the irst time. If you ever operate within the M25 and choose to pass by any these businesses – Dinex, Eminox, Clean Diesel Technologies, Pirelli & Co, Süd-Chemie, Emicon System, HJS Emission Technology or Huss – you do so at your peril.
