Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

As always in the used market dealers are looking ahead to identify the next big seller — here are some likely candidates.

Big cabs with big engines continue to dominate the used truck market in terms of residuals, demand and prestige, but bread-and-butter fleet-spec tractors will continue to play a central role.

Over the next 12 months look out for some interesting newcomers on the used market.

Leading the charge will be the Mercedes Benz Axor. It's now in its third year of production and has been an undoubted success.

The Mercedes-BenzApproved Used Commercial base in Yorkshire will direct many three-year-olds back into its dealer network but some are bound to appear in the independent sector.

Prices listed in Glass's Guide Commercial Vehicle Values (March) look strong compared with the Actros equivalent.

The iveco Stralis is also coming up on the rails but used examples won't be available in large numbers until next year. The Stralis has been well received on the open market and the decision to go clutchless has proved many doubters of automation wrong. As with all new concepts it's the later models with bigger engines that will command the most interest.

And talking of new concepts, Volvo's I-Shift is becoming more common on used forecourts. It's now three years since its launch and while Volvo dealerships are still selling predominately manual gearboxes in '02 and older stock, the I-Shift is starting to creep in at a premium. •
