Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Two Scania turbocharged diesels, the DS8 and DS11, have achieved British Standards certification. The eight-litre DS8 engine has been certified at 192 bhp allowing it to be used at 32 tons gcw; torque is 477 lb ft at 1500 rpm. The 11-litre DS11 has been certified at a net installed output of 250 bhp at 2200 rpm and a torque of 723 lb ft at 1400 rpm.

The smaller engine, the DS8, is just one feature of the Scania LB80 HS truck which, commencing mid April, will have several new design modifications.

A new type of turbocharger with a higher working efficiency has been fitted, together with a new design of piston which has compression rings of reduced depth. The engine now has an oil cooler which gives more effective lubrication.

The LB80 is fitted with new type gearboxes, G570 (five-speed) or GS750 (10-speed with planetary splitter). The five-speed main gearbox G750 is of a

completely new and more robust design. is shorter and more compact than t previous five-speed gearbox and now Ii stronger gears. The idler gears and t reverse idler are mounted on neel bearings.

A highly effective rotor pump provic the gearbox lubrication. The pump capae is more than seven times greater than tl of the previous plunger pump.

The splitter gearbox GS750 has compressed-air operated planetary split gear of the size used on the Scania 110 a 140 series. The planetary gear unit operated by a small control on the m gear lever.

The new gearbox has the advantages lower ratio first gear and more eve distributed gear-steps.
