WHILE completion of the £130 m. merger announced last week between Ind Coope, Tetley Walker and Ansells "will have no immediate effect on the fleets of the breweries," on the long-term basis there can be little doubt that reorganization of distribution will be a logical major objective, writes a special correspondent.
The merger of the three brewing groups will result in the biggest brewery empire in Britain operating collectively a C-licence fleet of vast proportions.
Mr. Edward Thompson, chairman of Ind Coope, who will be chairman of tbe new company, to be called Ind Coope Tetley Ansell, said last week that "each company will continue to operate under its own management," with a parent board and operating committee. An Ind Coope spokesman confirmed that in the immediate future at least, transport operations will continue on this basis.
In terms of distribution, however, integration and re-establishment of fleets are almost certainly bound to develop with each brewery's expansion.
