Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

gO realistic was a demonstration of

A.R.F. exercises given, last week, by the London Passenger Transport Board,-that a local fire brigade turned out, and came racing -to the scene, under. the false impression that the Board's local depot was on fire.

Between 200 and 300 persons witnessed the demonstration, including cfficials of the Home Office and Ministry, of Transport, and it was clearly manifested that the Board has • thoroughly organized its air-raid precautions services—no mean achievement in view of the number of its depots and their widespread disposition.

To be precise two demonstrations comprised the display, one at the Board's Cricklewood depot and the other at its Northfield establishment. In both cases, the exercises comprised combating gas, incendiary and highexplosive bombs, which included, of

course', decontamination, fire-extinguishing and rendering first aid.

Full marks must be accorded both to the men performing the exercises and to the instructors and organizers. for the proceedings went off almost without hitch. The speed, absence of confusion and co-ordination of action that was apparent constituted convincing evidence of the value of A.R.P. training and practice. That there were a few minor delays and that one or two unexpected incidents occurred, show how necessary and important practice and full-dress rehearsals of this type are.

Among the interesting equipment , taking part in the demonstration, and paraded for the inspection of visitors, were a Morris-Commercial tilt lorry adapted as an ambulance, an A.E.C. breakdown tender equipped with crane and winch gear and capable of replacing on its wheels an overturned doubledecked bus, an A.E.C. vehicle equipped with a powerful electric-generating plant, and a Green Line Regent coach fitted up as an ambulance with accommodation for 10 stretcher cases and attendants. We understand that the Board has many such coaches available for conversion to ambulances.
